Embracing Your Inner Fetish Fiend

11:05

With a worldwide superstar like Rihanna as the icon-du-jour, this is a trend that is sure to take the fashion world by storm. Ladies, and gentlemen of a racier nature, it’s time to dig out your corset and polish off your patent – because bondage is back.

Fetish inspired fashion has taken over the autumn/winter shows, from pioneer Marc Jacobs to Giles and Louis Vuitton, and with designer credentials like these backing the trend it’s hard not to succumb to their sordid vision. With racy looks that had the audiences blushing, this turn to the dark side is not for the faint hearted fashionista. This is a time to go all out gothic glamour; pale creamy skin and velvet plummy purple lips, paired with lashings of smoky kohl and blackest black volumising mascara. This smouldering base is the perfect partner to begin your vampish transformation, layering PVC, leather and lace over the top in decadent form fitting swathes. After all, who doesn’t love a bit of leather every now and then?

Now, this is not to be confused with the grunge glam dirty metallics seen at Balmain and Proenza Schouler. Although this day – to – evening style is the perfect antidote to sickly sweet Christmas glam, it just doesn’t compare to the controversial base that forms the fetish trend. The idea is to push boundaries of what is acceptable, while maintaining the attitude of not really caring what’s acceptable. This is Goth glam grown up, pulling all the best elements of this dark, edgy aesthetic into one giant uber trend – forming the crème de la crème of controversy that is being embraced worldwide. With Kate Moss appearing in bondage boots and Lady Gaga leaving the Mugler show in skin tight leather, this is one trend that is most definitely taking hold from a huge celeb following to the fashion forward youth.

The designer influence has already filtered its way down to the high street, and the gothic style is apparent in all the major brands. With high street giants such as Topshop and River Island embracing the style in exciting new ways, including gorgeous leather edging and high necklines, and the ever stylish ASOS proving that fetish glam can be done on a relatively tight budget. Saucy shapes and tantalising textures will be infiltrating our wardrobes within no time, if they haven’t already dug their teasing talons in.

Now, I know some of you may not want to flaunt your secret fetish fantasies to the world. There is a subtler side to this trend. Go for sheer panels, leather inserts and lots of lascivious lace, opting for ultra-sexy cut outs and sticking to the bodycon style wherever possible. Think a dominatrix’s subtle sister, going all out seductive in the most chic and wearable way.

There is however, one extremely important rule – everything must be black. So embrace your dark side, and start the New Year vampire style.
