Summer is an amazing time for our wardrobes, involving loads of fun, flirty outfits in cool fabrics and an array of vibrant patterns. From swimwear to sunglasses and summer dresses, I'm going to do a series of posts exploring the best of the best in these essential summer categories. First up, swimwear!

Swimming costumes are definitely being reinvented this year and taken to new found fashion heights. No longer reserved for people over a certain age or for when you're feeling a bit tummy conscious, these new offerings from high street giants are making the one piece the ultimate easy chic holiday statement - from figure flaunting colour blocking at Topshop to intriguing sealife patterns in hot pastels at River Island.

Missguided have a great choice of bikinis this season, including nautical navy stripes and spots, soft floral ruffles and the classic sexy black two piece. This halter neck style in a gorgeous bright tangerine coral is perfect for summer holidays, and the colour would be amazing against a tan. The little gold details add just enough detail to spice up the simple shape, and for £17.99 it's amazing value. Perfect for getting your tan on by the pool.

Another great source for fashion forward swimwear is ASOS. This geo print bikini is gorgeous, with a flattering longline top in a vibrant summery print. The black cage detail on the top gives a sexy edge and adds definition and strength - moving it away from being just another average bikini to something that looks like it could be from a top designer brand. This would definitely get you noticed on the beach this summer.

This gorgeous 50's inspired bikini from Topshop is top of my holiday wish list right now, and something I definitely think I will be investing in. The flattering shape of high waisted pants and longline top accentuate a small waist and the black side panelling will make you look even more amazing. The vibrant stained glass print is a nod towards the geometric/aztec patterns that are incredibly popular at the moment, whilst still maintaining a timeless quality in simple red, black and white. Altogether a gorgeous summer staple! Topshop, here I come.
